Web Design Rules Every Professional Should Know

The basic principles are the same for each representative of this field of activity. They are followed by both experienced professionals and even green beginners. Do you think that, having gone to a high level, experts spit on the general rules of web design and go on a free creative flight? Everything is not at all what you think.

Therefore, professional developers are such, because they ideally fulfill the requirements of the customer and follow certain principles that correspond to modern trends. Below I will give the basic rules of web design, adhering to which, you can achieve a high level in this area. Do not forget them during the implementation of each new project, and you will be happy.

Rule 1: Usability
If you want to create high-quality works that cause wild delight among customers, then first of all concentrate on the convenience of the site design. Analyze the target audience of the project you are working on. Understand what will be important to a person, what can scare away a potential client and how to keep him on his site longer.

Also, an analysis of top competitors is useful for this task. Examine the decisions that they made and continue to work on the basis of the data. Do not stupidly copy ideas. Take interesting points “by pencil” and come up with something original based on them.

Rule 2: Page Download Speed
After the next enchanting graphic experiments, many web design masters forget about one important thing: not everyone has the same powerful computer and Internet connection as theirs. Do not overload the website with redundant images if this can be avoided.

Vivid visualization, no doubt, plays a large role, but do not overdo it, because it significantly reduces the speed of loading sites. Sometimes it is because of her that people can leave the site because they simply do not want to wait long.

Rule 3: Navigation
The navigation block is considered one of the most important areas on the site. With it, the user navigates through web pages and finds what he came for. Navigation should cover a complete list of sections of the site so that a person does not have to spend extra time searching for the necessary information. Pay special attention to the development of this block, and even better, if appropriate in format, duplicate it in the footer.

Rule 4: Unified Style
Try to stay in style when designing. Work to ensure that the structure of the content and all the graphic elements on the pages of the site have a characteristic handwriting. A single corporate identity will give the site a more solid look and will surely appeal to the customer.

Rule 5: Fonts
In no case do not use more than three (and preferably two) types of fonts on one page. I don’t even want to stop there. If an open source of creativity occurs, break the protective glass, take out the creative extinguisher and immediately liquidate the emergency. The information applies not only to texts, but also to graphic images.

Rule 6: Color Scheme
The semantic load of the past rule applies to the color scheme of your future project. You should not use more than three different shades when designing one page. The only exception may be changes in the midtones of the same color. It’s better to competently use several shades than to blast users with an inappropriate rainbow.

Rule 7: Visualization
For a more comfortable perception of information and users moving around the site, try to use common icons. For example, a picture with a magnifying glass is already associated with search for everyone, a floppy disk – with saving data or files, a basket – with the purchase of goods, etc.

Do not neglect the visualization, but at the same time do not reinvent the wheel. Users may simply not pay attention to an incomprehensible graphic element and not buy a product simply because they do not understand how to do it.

Rule 8: Background
Background is considered one of the main problems of novice web designers. More precisely, they create difficulties for layout designers, not taking into account the fact that the site layout is not a simple picture, but a dynamic page that will stretch and transform at other resolutions, monitors or gadgets. Consider all possible options and do not allow the selected background image to have cropped edges.

Rule 9: Multi Browser Mapping
Often, inexperienced web designers do not take into account the fact that their web project on some browsers may not display as intended. This happens because each of them has its own algorithm for processing HTML code.

Consequently, the same item may appear differently in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Do not forget to check the preliminary template for identity in all browsers, otherwise it will directly testify to your lack of professionalism.
